For Financial Institutions
A reporting hub for Utah's banks and credit unions
The FCIC serves as a centralized state reporting and coordination hub for banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions operating in Utah. We make it easier to report suspected financial crime and connect your information with investigators who can act on it.
Why Report to the FCIC
Financial institutions see patterns that individual consumers cannot — unusual transaction activity, account takeover attempts, and fraud schemes that touch multiple customers at once. When you report to the FCIC, that information is aggregated, analyzed, and shared with law enforcement across the state.
This means your reports don’t disappear into a system where nothing happens. They become part of a statewide intelligence picture that helps us identify, investigate, and prosecute the criminal networks responsible.
What to Report
We encourage financial institutions to report suspected or confirmed activity involving:
- Bank account takeovers
- Check fraud, counterfeit instruments, and forgery
- Identity theft and synthetic identity fraud
- Wire fraud and unauthorized wire transfers
- Elder financial exploitation
- Money laundering or structuring
- Mortgage and loan fraud
- Business email compromise (BEC)
- Coordinated fraud across multiple customer accounts
Reporting to the FCIC does not replace your institution’s obligation to file Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) with FinCEN. These are complementary, not competing requirements.
